Brazos River Floodgates

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (Sept. 3, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District prepares to reinstall the East Brazos River Floodgates following a yearlong refurbishing process in which each of the 80-ton sector gates along with an additional 40 tons of organic material were removed for repair and cleaning to restore and enhance their structural integrity and operation. By mid September, both sector gates on the East side were reinstalled.

Floodgate Dimensions: 750 feet long by 75 feet wide; maximum to length is 1,180 feet and maximum tow width is 55 feet.

Commercial Vessel Check-in Procedures

West bound vessels check in at Bryan Beach bridge - East bound vessels check in at Jones Lake. West bound vessels use north bank moorings when tripping barges. East bound vessels use south bank moorings when tripping barges.
