GALVESTON, Texas - Water releases from Addicks and Barker reservoirs have reached projected release levels in accordance with the plan announced on Sept. 4.
Since Sept. 3, the Galveston District has gradually reduced water releases that are now below 4,000 cubic feet per second. Barring additional rainfall, it will take approximately one more month to completely drain the reservoirs.
"The citizens of Houston have shown much resolve during this crisis and have shown the world what caring for your fellow man is all about," said Col. Lars Zetterstrom, Galveston District commander. "Our thoughts and prayers continue for those still recovering from the results of this historic flooding event."
With the return to normal operations, the district will close gates and hold rain water from the Addicks and Barker watersheds during rain events to reduce flooding along Buffalo Bayou.
