GALVESTON, Texas – The Galveston District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the non-Federal sponsor, Harris County Flood Control District, is extending the public comment period until November 20, 2020 for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study Interim Report.

The comment period for the Joint Notice of Availability for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study Interim Report published in the Federal Register on Oct. 2, required comments be postmarked on or before Nov. 2. The comment period has been extended to Nov. 20.

“In response to a multitude of requests from the communities within the study area, we’ve decided to extend the comment period for the study” said Andrew Weber, project manager for the Galveston District. “Getting involved in this study can help the Corps and Harris County Flood Control District develop recommendations that are sensitive to your communities and effectively meet the project goals.”

The Corps is committed to building public understanding of the engineering and design options considered to date, ensuring that accurate information is easily accessible, and that opportunities are available for public input, said Weber.

About The Study:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with the Harris County Flood Control District, began an examination in 2018 of the feasibility of constructing projects for flood risk management along Buffalo Bayou and upstream of Addicks and Barker Reservoirs. The Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study, also known as the Buffalo Bayous Study, will involve engineering, economic and environmental analyses on large-scale projects, which may be considered by Congress for authorization and funding.

The study team encourages full public participation to promote open communication on the issues surrounding the study. In addition, participation by Federal, State, local agencies, and other interested organizations is encouraged.

You may participate in this process by providing comments for consideration by the study team. Public involvement is integral to assessing the environmental consequences of the proposed project and improving the quality of the environmental and feasibility decision making.

Public comments can be provided to USACE, Galveston District, Attn: BBTRS, P.O. Box 1229, Galveston, TX 77553-1229; or emailed to BBTRS@usace.army.mil.  Comments must be postmarked by November 20, 2020.
