USACE Galveston District donates $23,805.06 to CFC

GALVESTON, Texas (Nov. 22, 2013) – For decades the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District employees have been opening their hearts and wallets to support the annual Combined Federal Campaign, raising $23,805.06 this year to support those less fortunate.

As the only authorized charitable fundraising drive in the federal workplace, the annual district campaign held from Oct. 31 through Nov. 21 included local beneficiaries. The goal was to raise $20,000.

“Representatives from local charities spoke to Corps employees so they could learn how their contributions touch the lives of others,” said USACE Galveston District CFC Coordinator Dr. Rose Caballero. “I believe having direct contact with recipients put a face to the organization and encouraged staff to donate.”

Another significant factor behind the district’s successful year was the involvement of staff volunteer CFC key workers.

“The key workers made 100 percent contact with district staff and provided them with a CFC Agency Guide and pledge form,” said Caballero. “That way, nobody missed out on the chance to contribute to the charities that matter most to them.”

For many of the key workers, volunteering with this program has become a yearly tradition.

Kari Gauntt, USACE Galveston District administrative assistant and key CFC worker, became involved with the campaign as a key worker shortly after becoming a federal employee more than two decades ago.

“I'm a big proponent of paying it forward and giving to charities that are deserving and do so much good in our communities,” said Gauntt. “There is always someone or something less fortunate than others and I encourage folks to remember that and give back - the world will be a better place for it.”

Over the last seven years, the district has raised approximately $225,000 for the CFC, directly contributing to local charitable, health and human service organizations.

"I’ve never seen employees support the CFC as staunchly as this district does,” said Col. Richard Pannell, USACE Galveston District commander. “By supporting the CFC, we are giving to charitable organizations both locally and across the nation to make a difference in people's lives and help those less fortunate.”

Established 52 years ago, the CFC has become the nation’s leading workplace giving program, raising more money for charity than any other annual employee-giving program.
