  • PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE: Officials monitor Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs

    HOUSTON (May 29, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District and its partners, Harris County Flood Control District, Harris County Precinct 3, Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, the City of Houston and the Texas Department of Transportation, continue to monitor roads located near the Addicks and Barker dams to determine if temporary road closures will be enforced due to inclement weather.

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 29, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will join the Association of State Dam Safety Officials and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in recognizing May 31 as National Dam Safety Awareness Day.

    HOUSTON (May 27, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, is closely monitoring the Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs in West Houston as part of stage one of an extended watch that calls for an increased surveillance of the flood risk management structures.
  • USACE Galveston District awards contract for Galveston, Houston channel dredging

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 22, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $11,492,530 to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company for routine maintenance dredging of the Galveston inner and outer bar, entrance channel and extended entrance channel as well as the Houston Ship Channel between Bolivar Road and Redfish Island.
  • USACE Galveston District awards contract to dredge Gulf Intracoastal Waterway in Aransas and Calhoun counties, Texas

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 19, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a maintenance dredging contract in the amount of $2,967,500 to Orion Marine Construction Inc., to dredge the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) across Aransas Bay in Aransas and Calhoun counties, Texas.
  • District stresses water safety; flexes lock operations for recreational boaters

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 18, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is gearing up for a busy Memorial Day holiday along the Texas coast by stressing water safety awareness to all those who will enjoy outdoor activities this extended weekend. The arrival of the Memorial Day holiday weekend will bring an increased level of outdoor activities throughout Texas, especially with outdoor recreation involving water activities at public beaches, in swimming pools, while boating and engaging in other aquatic-related activities.

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 11, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will host Corps project managers from around the nation during a Dam Safety Modification Studies Workshop May 12-14, 2015, at the district’s headquarters building in Galveston, Texas.
  • District conducts pre-hurricane surveys of Texas coast waterways

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 6, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is expected to finish its annual pre-hurricane survey of its navigation projects located along the Texas coast in late May; a process that provides the district with data to establish baseline conditions of all 1,000 miles of channels located within its area of operation.
