Full Public Notice          Project Plans

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The applicant proposes to perform beach nourishment activities along approximately 39,029 linear feet of beachfront on Galveston Island at  East Beach (approximately 2,029 feet), Stewart Beach (approximately 1,713 feet) then between 10th Street and 103rd Street (with the exception of the reach between 47th Street to 51st Street, the location for the seawater intake system maintained by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) -approximately 35,287 feet), using beach quality sand obtained from authorized local upland and submerged sand sources, as well as beneficial use of dredged beach quality sand from Federal projects.  The project was initially authorized by the Corps, formerly 14721, on 12 May 1984 and allowed the Park Board to re-nourish beaches between 10th and 103rd streets using dump trucks.
