Full Public Notice    Project Plans

The applicant proposes realign approximately 2,600 linear feet of Little Cedar Bayou to reduce the flooding of nearby residential and commercial properties and to restore natural stream functions.  The project would include laying back the bank slope, adding sinuosity, restoring bankfull benches, and constructing four oxbow-like depressional areas in the floodway of Little Cedar Bayou.  For the portion of the project north of Spencer Highway, the typical cross section of Little Cedar Bayou would be expanded from an existing top of bank width of approximately 22 feet to a varying width of 50 to 150 feet.   For the portion of the project south of Spencer Highway, the cross section of Little Cedar Bayou would be expanded from a top of bank width of approximately 22 feet to a varying width of 60 to 80 feet.  The oxbow-like depressional areas would be planted with native tree species.  The applicant is also proposing to plant approximately 400 (3-gallon) native trees in thirteen areas, totaling 1.15 acres along the riparian corridor of Little Cedar Bayou.  The proposed native tree species include: Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum), Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica), Willow Oak (Quercus phellos), Sycamore (Plantanus occidentalis), Cottonwood (Populus deltoids), Water Hickory (Carya aquatic), and American Elm (Ulmus Americana).  The proposed work would also impact 0.02 acre of emergent wetlands located within the stream bed of Little Cedar Bayou.
