Orange County Project

There is currently no comprehensive levee system in place in Orange County. The proposed system will reduce flood risk from storm surge and compound flooding associated with storm events.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently designing the proposed Orange County portion of the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Program and is currently in the early stages of preconstruction and design for the proposed project, and the alignment of the new levees, floodwalls, and gates has not been finalized. This project will include a new levee system (floodwalls, earthen levee, pump stations, drainage structures, and road/railroad closure gates). This system includes, but is not limited to, 15.6 miles of newly constructed levee, 10.7 miles of newly constructed floodwalls, seven pump stations, 56 drainage structures, 32 closure gates located at road and railway crossings, two navigable sector gates and 6 environmental mitigation areas.
