Draft Environmental Impact Statement on Shoal Point releasedThe Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Shoal Point terminal is now available to the public and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, has set Jan. 29 as the date for a public hearing and workshop. The workshop will be held from 5 to 6:30 P.M. at the Charles Doyle Convention Center in Texas City and will be followed by the public hearing at 7 P.M.. The workshop will provide information on the environmental impact statement and the proposed project. The public hearing is to solicit comments on the draft EIS and the proposed project. All comments, both written and oral, will become part of the official record and will be taken into consideration during the permit decision making process according to Ms. Sharon Tirpak, project manager for the Corps of Engineers. Additional written comments will be accepted if postmarked by Feb. 18, 2002. A hard copy of the executive summary and a CD containing the entire draft EIS document may be obtained free of charge from the Corps of Engineers. A hard copy of the entire document may be obtained for a charge of $75 to cover printing costs. The document may also be viewed at public libraries in Texas City, Galveston, League City, Pasadena, Deer Park, Baytown and La Marque.
