Public Notice          Project Plans

The applicant proposes to utilize the Offshore Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS) for the disposal of dredged material generated from dredging activities within the Houston Ship Channel.

More specifically, the project consists of maintenance dredging and disposing of the material in approved DMPAs including the USACE ODMDS. Dredging will occur within the existing federally authorized Houston Ship Channel, extending from the Upper Turning Basin in Houston, Texas through Galveston Bay to the Galveston Entrance Channel and the Gulf of America, including all channel reaches, turning basins, and approach areas extending approximately 52 miles along the Houston Ship Channel. Dredging may be conducted using hopper dredges, hydraulic pipeline dredges, cutterhead dredges, mechanical dredges (clamshell or bucket), and excavator mounted dredging equipment. Bed leveling may also be performed to redistribute localized shoaling within the channel prism. Equipment may include plow-type bed levelers, drag beams, leveling blades, silt blades, sweep bars, chains, rollers, sledge frames, sediment redistribution beams, or similar devices. Water injection dredging will not be used.
