GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 14, 2023) Col. Rhett Blackmon, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, talks about the history of USACE with school-age children from Jack and Jill of America, Inc. during a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math field trip to the district. In partnership with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coast Survey, Galveston District hosted more than 50 elementary, middle, and high school students from Jack and Jill of America and their chaperones to learn about all the roles and responsibilities of USACE and the importance of wetlands by visiting City of Galveston’s East End Lagoon Nature Preserve where they learned about map reading, vegetation/plant identification, soil surveys, and more.
