At the March 27 Stakeholder Forum, Andrew Weber, a USACE Galveston District project manager announced the advancement of a $6 million feasibility study that will consider and explore a third reservoir, tunneling and increasing capacity at Addicks and Barker Reservoirs in Houston. Weber announced that the inclusion of community members is a priority. Local public scoping meetings are scheduled for late April and early May 2019. Some of the goals of the study are: •Reduce damages from river flooding/reservoir pool flooding on channels upstream and downstream •Optimize the reservoir operations •Optimize/improve/safely convey detained water •Reduce sediment and erosion •Reduce risk of dam failure •Reduce risk to health and life safety • Develop flood damage components that enhance or complement the environment where possible •Analyze the potential for recreational opportunities
