NPR Takes Galveston District's "Ring Tour"
GALVESTON, Texas (Feb. 14, 2023) Dr. Kelly A. Burks-Copes, Chief, Program Support Branch for the Mega Projects Division (MPD) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, first from left, Maj. Ian O’Sullivan, Deputy Commander for MPD, first from right, and Carlos Gomez, Deputy Chief of Galveston District Public Affairs, right speak with National Public Radio Climate Desk Correspondent Rebecca Hersher, middle, and NPR Science Desk Producer and Visual Reporter Ryan Kellman, the “Ring Tour.” Galveston District’s “Ring Tour” takes a route around Galveston Island to show the upcoming and prospective areas where coastal storm surge defenses will be put in place as part of the Coastal Texas Program. The Galveston District, along with its non-Federal partners the Gulf Coast Protection District and the Texas General Land Office, will lead the delivery of this approximately $34 billion, in today’s dollars, program, representing an integrated and comprehensive coastal resiliency strategy for the Texas coast.
