  Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category A: Community Relations Individual Achievement - First Place -- Isidro Reyna, APR: Reyna joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District as a civilian public affairs officer in 2009. As the deputy public affairs officer, he maintains internal and external communications and effectively conveys the district’s engineering mission to a complex military, civil service and contract workforce as well as key audiences ranging from congressional representatives to the public. During his tenure, Reyna has been instrumental in increasing awareness of the value the Corps brings to the local community, state and nation.

Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category B: Community Relations Program - First Place -- Corps Cares: Connecting the Community with the Corps: A comprehensive community relations program to increase understanding of the Corps’ mission of providing vital public engineering services in peace and war to strengthen the nation’s security, energize the economy and reduce risks from disasters.

Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category C: Community Relations Special Event - Second Place -- April Pools Day: A one-day media event to educate the public about water safety and partner with community leaders, volunteers and citizens to help reduce public fatalities and improve public safety.   Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category K: Human Interest Features - First Place -- Stephen Sheedy: A feature story on Rashid Sheikh-ali, who set out on a life-changing journey in 1980 that would take him from Africa to America –where he would become a structural engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District.   Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category H: Television Information Program - Second Place -- Dig This: Dredging Along the Texas Coast: In an effort to educate the public about the importance of keeping waterways open for navigation, staff created a four-minute video infographic about dredging along the Texas coast, the economic impact shipping has on the nation and the potential consequences of failing to conduct advanced waterway maintenance.   Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition: Category P: Command Information Campaign - Second Place -- Corps Cares: Communicating Cutbacks: Staff developed an aggressive command information campaign to educate district employees about the organization’s current fiscal climate and inform staff of necessary agency-wide budget cutbacks to avoid district-wide layoffs.
  Prairie View A&M University 2013 Corporate Partner Excellence Award: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District was selected as the 2013 award recipient. The award recognizes, honors and celebrates organizations whose contributions, dedication and commitment contribute to the overall success of students in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering programs.  
Communitas Award: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District earned a Communitas Award for Corps Cares: Connecting the Community with the Corps, a comprehensive community relations program to increase understanding of the Corps' mission of providing vital public engineering services in peace and war to strengthen the nation's security, energize the economy and reduce risks from disasters.

  International Boating & Water Safety Summit Media Awards: USACE Galveston District’s Simon DeSoto, Colorado River lockmaster, earned second and third place awards for his radio water safety public service announcements during the 17th International Boating & Water Safety Summit in San Antonio, Texas. DeSoto partnered with Happy Radio 92.5 to produce and broadcast the PSAs to a potential audience of 36,000 listeners along the Texas coast.
USACE Galveston District: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District named Administrative Support Assistant Mary Baugh of the Planning, Environmental and Regulatory Division the 2013 Administrative Professional of the Year.
Public Affairs Office: USACE Locke L. Mouton Public Affairs Award of Excellence, First Place, Sandra Arnold, APR+M, with assistance from Isidro Reyna, APR. The annual Mouton Awards honor individual public affairs practitioners for superior achievement in media relations and public information, community relations, command information and emergency/disaster response. Arnold was recognized in the command information category for the district's Corps Cares: Communicating Cutbacks campaign.
  Construction Branch: USACE Ronald J. Ruffennach Communicator of the Year Award, Eduardo "Eddie" Irigoyen, civil engineer/construction manager, nationwide competition. Awarded to a key communicator outside of the public affairs career field, Irigoyen received the honor for his continuous support of the USACE Galveston District’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Awareness Program.
Public Affairs Office: The USACE Galveston District was recognized with a Gold Award from the 2013 Hermes Creative Awards competition for its Corps Cares: Congressional Report. The annual reports are distributed electronically to community leaders and congressional representatives, including both Texas and Louisiana senators and are posted on the district's website.

USACE Galveston Project Management: Office of the Secretary of Defense names USACE Galveston and Fort Worth districts' "Warriors in Transition Complex" project #8 in "Top 20 Showcased American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 programs/projects." The WT in Fort Bliss, Texas, includes barracks for 232 wounded Soldiers, a Soldiers’ Family Assistance Center and administrative headquarters. The project was listed in the White House Report titled “100 Recovery Act Projects that are changing America.” Learn more at http://1.usa.gov/buInwD.
  Equal Employment Opportunity: Dr. Rose Caballero received the 2012 NAACP Roy Wilkins Award, the highest recognition bestowed by the NAACP, in recognition of her outstanding diversity program, employment practices, educational incentives and community involvement.   USACE Galveston District: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District celebrated the Corps’ 237th birthday with an awards ceremony, June 7, 2012, to recognize an Employee, Engineer and Supervisor of the Year, as well as to honor staff for their contributions to the community, state and nation. Congratulations to our  winners: Sandra Arnold, Supervisor of the Year, William "Bill" Krampe, Employee of the Year and Mark "Steve" Peterson, Engineer of the Year. Additionally, Dwayne Johnson and Desiree Wilson were named the USACE Galveston Co-Regulators of the Year.
  Public Affairs Office: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Public Affairs Office was recognized as the Government Communications Team of the Year at the Public Relations Society of America Houston Chapter’s 2012 Excalibur Awards, June 28.
 

Sims Bayou Project Office: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Southwestern Division announced USACE Galveston District Construction Control Representative Brent Granier as the recipient of the division’s 2012 Hard Hat of the Year Award. Presented annually to recognize excellence in construction quality management, Granier was selected as the Hard Hat of the Year Award recipient over contenders from four division offices across the USACE Southwestern Division.

  USACE Galveston District: The USACE Galveston District was recognized with the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council's Nature Service Award. The award is given to an organization that has given credible service to some aspect of nature on the Island. The council expressed that the district has been a partner not only with the Corps Woods but with the East End Lagoon project.
  Regulatory Branch: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Southwestern Division announced USACE Galveston District Regulator Dwayne Johnson as the recipient of the division's 2012 Regulator of the Year award.
 

Safety Office: The district is recognized for its exceptional contribution to the Southwestern Division Safety and Occupational Health Program. As a result of the combined efforts of the four Southwestern Division's districts, the division was awarded the Chief of Engineers Award of Excellence for FY2011.

  Public Affairs Office: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Public Affairs Office was recognized with a Gold Award from the 2012 MarCom Awards competition for its USACE Galveston District employee newsletter – Sand Castle and an Honorable Mention for its website redesign.
