    SWG observes Hispanic Heritage Month with some heat

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District (SWG) celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) with a presentation and taste testing at the district’s headquarters, October 5, 2023. SWG’s Hispanic Employment Program Manager Carlos Gomez and group of panelists presented ‘¡Caliente!: A presentation on the origins of spicy food’ to the attending audience and those tuning in remotely via WebEx.
  • As part of its National Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) celebration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District held a special presentation—and tasting—on Hispanic cuisine, October 12. Galveston’s Hispanic Employment Program Manager gave a brief history on the influences of Hispanic cuisine and—with the help of several District employees—treated attendants to a sample tasting of several traditional dishes from throughout Latin America.

    he U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a panel discussion on Hispanic participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers, September 21, 2022. The Galveston District’s Hispanic Employment Program Manager, Carlos Gomez, assembled the panel of distinguished USACE engineers, to include: Construction Branch Chief Pablo Hernandez; Project Engineer Griselda Ahumada; Project Manager Eduardo Irigoyen; Water Management Section Chief Jennifer Ramos-Ortiz; Program Manager Rick Villagomez; Civil Engineer Dora Molina; and Civil Engineer Martin Puente.

    GALVESTON, Texas (October 8, 2021) – Sally Davila, a Galveston native and leader within the local Hispanic community, speaks via teleconference to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District employees during a virtual Hispanic Heritage Month observance. Davila and other local minority group leaders are preparing to roll out ‘The Hue Pages,’ a business directory of local African-American- and Hispanic-owned businesses. This effort—Davila hopes—will provide much needed economic growth and development for local small businesses.
