USACE Galveston District Hosts Dredging Fundamentals Prospect Course
Chris Dearing, Callan Marine Ltd., vice president, white helmet, gives the class of forty students a tour of the dredging company’s maintenance and storage facility, pointing at an anchor used by dredge vessels. The USACE Institute for Water Resources offers the Dredging Fundamentals Prospect Course to USACE employees. Through lectures, group discussions, examinations, and a field trip, this course teaches the student fundamental dredging theory and accepted dredging practices in addition to basic information on how Corps dredging projects are authorized, funded, engineered, managed, and maintained. A brief overview of dredge estimating, dredging safety, hydrographic surveys, and dredging contract administration is also provided.
