USACE Galveston District and Harris County Flood Control District announce additional funds, schedule extension for BBTRS

The Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District and the Harris County Flood Control District jointly announce the approval of additional funds and a schedule extension for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study (BBTRS). The approval provides an additional $1.8 million in federal funds and extends the study for an additional 26 months, bringing the total federal funding to $7.8 million with a scheduled completion date of December 10, 2023.

USACE Galveston District releases Buffalo Bayou Tributaries Resiliency Study Interim Report

GALVESTON, Texas – Today the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District is releasing an Interim Report for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study (BBTRS). The purpose of BBTRS is to identify, evaluate and recommend actions to address conditions that have changed flood risks around the Addicks and Barker reservoirs since their construction in the 1940s.

USACE Galveston District joins Buffalo Bayou Partnership in supporting Texas’ largest canoe and kayak race

GALVESTON, Texas (March 5, 2015) – During the year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District carefully watches and manages the water levels in the Buffalo Bayou system that run throughout Houston. Normally it is the weather that dictates how the Corps manages the watershed; but for one day each year, staff will base their decisions on one addition factor – the needs of the recreational paddlers participating in Texas’ largest canoeing and kayaking event.

Federal funding breathes life into Greens Bayou Flood Damage Reduction Project

GALVESTON, Texas (Feb. 24, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District and Harris County Flood Control District will start work on the Greens Bayou Flood Damage Reduction Project in north Harris County this year due to $8 million in start-up funding allocated in the federal fiscal year 2015 budget for the Corps’ Civil Works program.

USACE Chief Lt. Gen. Bostick visits region
