Water Resources Development Act of 2022 signed into law, authorizing advancement of Coastal Texas Program

President Biden signed the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 into law on December 23, 2022, which includes authorization of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Coastal Texas Program. This legislative action officially authorizes USACE to begin implementation activities for this large-scale coastal storm risk management and ecosystem restoration program, pending appropriation of funding.

Electronic and raster navigational charts updated to reflect spoil areas in Corpus Christi Bay

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Port of Corpus Christi and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) are working together to ensure the safety of the boating and sailing communities in the Corpus Christi Bay area during the dredging project of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement project. The electronic and raster navigational charts have been updated to reflect changes in the spoil areas in Corpus Christi Bay. Mariners should use caution when transiting near the spoil area and be advised that some water depths may be as shallow as 3 feet from mean lower low water (MLLW) within the marked spoil areas. Mariners are encouraged to update navigational charts with the latest information contained in the Local Notice to Mariners found at https://www.navcen.uscg.gov/local-notices-to-mariners?district=8+0&subdistrict=g.

USACE Galveston District extends time to comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Port of Corpus Christi Authority’s Channel Deepening Project, Nueces and Aransas Counties, Texas

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District has extended the comment period to August 9, 2022 for all affected federal, state, and local agencies, affected Native American Tribes, other interested parties, and the general public to review and comment on the Port of Corpus Christi Authority’s (PCCA) Channel Deepening Project Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for Department of the Army Permit SWG-2019-00067. The DEIS is available on the Galveston District’s Project webpage below.

JOINT PUBLIC NOTICE: Draft Detailed Project Report & Environmental Assessment for the proposed USACE Galveston Island Coastal Erosion Study

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District (USACE), in partnership with the City of Galveston, has prepared a Draft Detailed Project Report and Environmental Assessment (DDPR-EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Galveston Island Coastal Erosion, Galveston, Texas, continuing authorities study as authorized by Section 204 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2016. The USACE prepared the DDPR-EA to determine the feasibility of employing Beneficial Use of Dredged Material measures for coastal storm risk management on Galveston beaches to benefit coastal communities and public infrastructure.
