  • USACE Galveston District and Harris County Flood Control District announce additional funds, schedule extension for BBTRS

    The Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District and the Harris County Flood Control District jointly announce the approval of additional funds and a schedule extension for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study (BBTRS). The approval provides an additional $1.8 million in federal funds and extends the study for an additional 26 months, bringing the total federal funding to $7.8 million with a scheduled completion date of December 10, 2023.

  • Galveston District holding back water in Addicks & Barker Reservoirs for outflow measurements tests

    The USACE Galveston District will close the Addicks and Barker reservoirs for varying periods to obtain a specific non-flooding pool elevation to take flow measurements through the new outlet structures. A new outlet structure at Barker Dam was put into operation on February 14, 2020, and a new outlet structure at Addicks Dam on March, 24, 2020. The closures will allow the Galveston District to take field measurements that will be used to validate and calibrate the outflows from the dam’s new outlet structures. The tests will ensure the dams are in compliance with USACE policy for the operation of both dams. 

  • Galveston District to seek right-of-entry from Orange County landowners

    Beginning Nov. 15, 2021, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Real Estate Division will go door-to-door seeking right-of-entry (ROE) permissions from Orange County landowners.

  • District launches new online interactive tool to educate residents on Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Program

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District launched a multi-media Story Map this week to better inform residents on the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Program (S2G) and its three projects in the cities of Freeport (Brazoria County), Port Arthur (Jefferson County), and Orange (Orange County).

  • Chief’s Report signed for Coastal Texas Study

    Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General and 55th U.S. Army Chief of Engineers, signed the Chief's Report for the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study (The Coastal Texas Study) on Sept. 16, 2021.

  • USACE and Velasco Drainage District co-hosting virtual public information session for the Freeport Coastal Storm Risk Management Project Sept 22-23

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District and our non-federal sponsor, the Velasco Drainage District, are co-hosting public information sessions Wednesday and Thursday, September 22-23, 2021 to provide an update on the Freeport Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Project. The Freeport CSRM is a component of the larger Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay CSRM Project. Due to COVID-19, this public information session will be virtual.

  • Final Feasiblity Report & Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study Released

    The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Texas General Land Office (GLO) announce the release of the final version of the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study. The Coastal Texas Study is a six-year, $20.63 million comprehensive study led by USACE in partnership with our non-federal cost-share sponsor, the TXGLO. The purpose of the study is to identify feasible projects that reduce risks to public health and the economy, restore critical ecosystems, and advance coastal resiliency.

  • Wallisville Accepting Hog Removal Applications

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District’s Wallisville Lake Project Office staff is now accepting applications for feral hog removal using trained dogs and trapping. The project will offer 50 dog hunting permits to individuals using trained dogs on a first-come-first-serve basis. A limited number of trapping permits will also be available throughout the year to those interested in trapping feral hogs on project lands.

  • Wallisville Lake Project improves waterfowl hunting process

    The Wallisville Lake Project, Waterfowl Management Program has made improvements to their hunting permit issuance process. Waterfowl hunting permits are now available on-demand via the Projects website.  The Wallisville Lake Project is part of the operations portfolio for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston Distirct. 

  • USACE stresses safe boating around dredging operations

    With the upcoming Fourth of July holiday around the corner, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District has a public safety announcement for recreational boaters on the Galveston Harbor and Channel. In collaboration with Orion Marine Group—the contractor carrying out the dredging in the Galveston Harbor and Channel—USACE stressed increasing awareness of the dredge operations in the channel to local recreational boaters in anticipation of the upcoming long holiday weekend. According to statistics, boating accidents are one of the top five most common mishaps during the Fourth of July.
