  • Galveston District holding back water in Addicks & Barker Reservoirs for outflow measurements tests

    The USACE Galveston District will close the Addicks and Barker reservoirs for varying periods to obtain a specific non-flooding pool elevation to take flow measurements through the new outlet structures. A new outlet structure at Barker Dam was put into operation on February 14, 2020, and a new outlet structure at Addicks Dam on March, 24, 2020. The closures will allow the Galveston District to take field measurements that will be used to validate and calibrate the outflows from the dam’s new outlet structures. The tests will ensure the dams are in compliance with USACE policy for the operation of both dams. 

  • USACE Galveston District releases Buffalo Bayou Tributaries Resiliency Study Interim Report

    GALVESTON, Texas – Today the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District is releasing an Interim Report for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study (BBTRS). The purpose of BBTRS is to identify, evaluate and recommend actions to address conditions that have changed flood risks around the Addicks and Barker reservoirs since their construction in the 1940s.

  • USACE Galveston District’s dam safety mission highlighted on National Dam Safety Awareness Day

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 29, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will join the Association of State Dam Safety Officials and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in recognizing May 31 as National Dam Safety Awareness Day.
