Full Public Notice          Project Plans

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The applicant seeks authorization to modify previously authorized work, structures and fills at an existing facility within the Bayport Turning Basin and Channel.  Department of the Army Permit SWG-0000-15383 and SWG-0000-15383(01) authorized the discharge of fill material and placement of structures for the construction of Wharf 3 and Wharf 4 and dredging to a depth of 45 feet below Mean Lower Low Water with 2 feet of overdredge.  Wharf #3 will include steel pipe pile and sheet pile combination bulkhead with a concrete cap, a concrete dock steel frame structure 4 monopile ship breasting dolphins, 1 monopile mooring dolphin, and a bulkhead mounted cell fender.  Wharf #4 consists of steel pipe pile and sheet pile combination bulkhead with a concrete cap, a concrete block, steel frame structure, 4 monopile ship breasting dolphins, 1 monopile mooring dolphin with catwalk, a central loading platform with wall mounted cell fenders, and a wing wall constructed along the perimeter fence.  Approximately, 9,800 cubic yards of material is proposed to be discharged behind the bulkheads for backfill and structural stability.  The dredging portion of this project will be performed through mechanical or hydraulic methods and will dredge approximately 290,000 cubic yards of material from an 8.45-acre area adjacent to the federal turning basin and channel.  The dredged material is proposed to be placed in 1 of 6 existing Dredged Material Placement Areas (DMPAs).  The purpose of this project is to expand the capabilities at the existing facility to take advantage of recent dredging in the channel and turning basin.
