Full Public Notice          Project Plans

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The applicant proposes to construct a new oil dock with breasting dolphins and to dredge an associated basin.  The oil dock would be 125 feet long by 50 feet wide and constructed at the end of a 25-foot-long by 40-foot-wide approachway.  Two breasting dolphins would be constructed on each side of the dock, extending 150 feet to the east of the dock and 160 feet to the west of the dock.  The dolphins would be 30 feet long by 18 feet wide.  The proposed basin would be approximately 11.43 acres in size and dredged to a total depth of -49 feet MLT (-45 feet MLT plus 2 feet allowable overdepth, plus 2 feet advanced maintenance dredging).  Included in this area are impacts to 0.09-acre of oysters, 0.09-acre of tidal flat, 0.26-acre of estuarine wetlands, 0.06-acre of mangroves, 4.11 acres of shallow open water (<-6 feet), and 6.13 acres of deep open water (>-6 feet).  Approximately 460,000 cubic yards of material would be hydraulically dredged and/or mechanically excavated and placed within one or more of the following dredged material placement areas (DMPAs): DMPA No. 1, Herbie A. Maurer DMPA, DMPA Cell B, and/or DMPA No. 6.  The proposed basin would be constructed with a 3:1 slope.  Also, approximately 0.2-acre of estuarine wetlands, 0.05-acre of mangroves, and 0.75-acre of shallow open water will be permanently filled for equipment support area and placement of articulated block mat to stabilize the dredged slope.  An existing outfall structure would be relocated along the western shoreline to accommodate basin dredging.  No seagrass areas were identified within the project site.
