Full Public Notice          Project Plans          Alternatives Analysis

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

DREDGING:  The applicant proposes to dredge 3,646 cubic yards of material from 0.12 acre of jurisdictional tidal wetlands and 0.20 acre of open water, for the purposes of expanding a vessel fleeting capacity of an existing commercial oyster harvesting facility.  Dredging activities would deepen the canal to a depth of 8 feet below mean high tide, with a 2-foot over-dredge.  The proposed dredging footprint will bring landside water depths to depths consistent with the center of the canal.

EXCVATION:  The applicant also proposes to excavate 0.12 acre of uplands to expand the facility’s fleeting capacity, creating additional open water habitat.

BULKHEAD AND BACKFILL:  The applicant also proposes to place a total of 457 cubic yards of clean, earthen soil fill material into 0.04 acre of wetland and 0.05 acre open water, during the installation of 357 linear feet of bulkhead.  The cubic yards of fill material are described below by location:

•     Open water - 175 cubic yards of fill material.

•     Existing wetlands behind the northern portion of the bulkhead - 77 cubic yards of fill material.

•     Existing wetlands located central portion and landside of the bulkhead - 205 cubic yards of fill material.

PIER:  The applicant also proposes to install a 114-foot-long by 10-foot-wide pier, into the canal, near the southern portion of the proposed bulkhead.
