USACE Galveston District awards $235,923 contract for environmental services

GALVESTON, Texas (June 10, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $235,923.81 to SOL Engineering Services LLC, a small business, for environmental services to include the collection and analyses of water and sediment samples from the federally-maintained Matagorda Ship Channel entrance channel.

USACE Galveston District celebrates Corps’ and Army’s 241th birthdays; names Employee, Engineer, Regulator and Supervisor of the Year

GALVESTON, Texas (June 9, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District celebrated the U.S. Army’s and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ 241th birthdays with an awards ceremony to induct a USACE Galveston District retiree into the Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees, Engineer, Regulator, Supervisor, Innovator and STEM Volunteer of the Year as well as to honor staff for their contributions to the community, state and nation.

USACE Galveston District notification of Texas City floodwall damage

GALVESTON, Texas (May 5, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District conducted a routine inspection of the Texas City and Vicinity Hurricane Flood Protection Project in February 2016 and identified damage to a small section of the Texas City floodwall.

District issues special public notice to address flood recovery and repair activities

GALVESTON, Texas (April 21, 2016) ¬– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District issued a special public notice in response to severe flooding and other storm-related damages that occurred in communities along the Texas coast to provide guidance and a summary of exemptions and permits, which may be required for the protection and repair of existing flood damaged structures, damaged land areas and damaged fills.

Corps to accept duck blind applications May 1-June 30, 2016

WALLISVILLE, Texas (April 20, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Wallisville Lake Project Office’s Waterfowl Management Program will accept seasonal duck blind applications May 1- June 30, 2016, for the upcoming 2016-17 waterfowl hunting season. Applicants must apply for the duck blind drawing using the Wallisville Lake Waterfowl Management Program website to complete the 2016-17 duck blind drawing application.

District to hold Houston Ship Channel Expansion Channel Improvement Project public scoping meeting

GALVESTON, Texas (April 19, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will host two public scoping meetings May 17 and 19, 2016, to inform the public about the proposed study to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Houston Ship Channel 45-Foot Expansion Channel Improvement Project (HSC ECIP) in Harris and Galveston counties, Texas, which will study the feasibility of improvements to the HSC.

PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE II: Officials monitor Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs

HOUSTON (April 18, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District staff is anticipating several roads to be inundated with water in the Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs, to include State Highway 6, Eldridge, Barker-Cypress and Clay roads as well as Westheimer Parkway along with additional minor roads in both reservoirs.
