  • Corps releases at Addicks and Barker Dams to begin

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is starting water releases immediately from Addicks and Barker dams because water levels in the reservoirs have increased dramatically in the last few hours.

    Because of the extreme nature of the ongoing weather event in the Houston area, Army Corps of Engineers officials have determined that they will likely have to release intermittent amounts of water from both Addicks and Barker reservoirs to reduce the risk to the Houston metropolitan area.

  • USACE Galveston continues to monitor Addicks and Barker Dams

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 25, 2017) – The Addicks and Barker reservoirs are currently empty and are functioning under normal conditions where natural flows are being released through the system and into Buffalo Bayou. Construction continues on the two new outlet structures, which are protected by two coffer dams as part of the $75 million Addicks and Barker Dam Safety Construction Project, which began in 2016.

  • ADDICKS AND BARKER RESERVOIRS IN WEST HOUSTON ARE RISING; WATER COULD IMPACT AREA ROADS

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 8, 2017) ¬–Heavy rainfall in west and northwest Harris County early this morning has led to significant rises in the Addicks and Barker reservoirs in west Harris County. As water levels rise in the reservoirs, roadways that run through them are at risk of becoming inundated and impassable.

  • Drainage District No. 7 and the Corps work to repair damaged floodwall

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 4, 2017) – Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 notified the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of a floodwall failure near Taylor Bayou Tuesday morning. The floodwall is part of the Port Arthur and Vicinity Hurricane Flood Protection system. As a result of the floodwall’s current condition, we do not have confidence that it will withstand a local tropical storm or hurricane.

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 5, 2017) – Throughout her childhood, Katie Parks moved a total of nine times. She lived in eight different states in the U.S. including a move overseas to Germany. Parks and her brother were the staple military kids who faced the many obstacles of relocation, constant change, and readjustments. With a father who is a retired U.S. Army colonel and a mother who retired from TRADOC as a budget analyst, it’s no surprise Parks took a career path that had the military elements of her father mixed with the financial aspects of her mother’s career.

    GALVESTON, Texas (June 30, 2017) – As the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District prepares for a busy Independence Day weekend (a holiday known for drinking and boating and deadly accidents), the USACE Galveston District urges the public to put safety first and become water aware when participating in water-related recreational activities.
