  • Former USACE Engineer Sentenced to Federal Prison for Bribery

    GALVESTON, Texas - Christopher Castillo, 33, of Monte Alto, has been handed a federal prison sentence after having been convicted of one count of bribery, United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Castillo entered a plea of guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge John Froeschner on Aug. 22, 2012, which was later accepted by U.S. District Judge Gregg Costa.

  • USACE Galveston District awards task order contract for light detection and ranging survey data collection

    GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 18, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a task order contract in the amount of $267,807.37 to AECOM Technical Services for Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) survey data collection at 32 dredging placement areas at various locations along the Texas portion of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW).

    GALVESTON, Texas (Dec. 14, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract to Orion Marine Construction Inc. in the amount of $8,876,000 for maintenance dredging of the Matagorda Ship Channel to include a critically shoaled area of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway near the entrance channel in Matagorda County, Texas.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Dec. 7, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract to Orion Marine Construction Inc. in the amount of $2,988,900 for maintenance dredging of the Bayport Ship Channel in Chambers and Harris counties, Texas.

  • USACE Galveston District prepares for oyster reef construction project in Matagorda, Texas

    GALVESTON, Texas (Nov. 20, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, partnered with The Nature Conservancy in Texas to undertake an ecosystem restoration project that will create up to 12 acres of sub-tidal reef and habitat located within the northernmost extent of the Half Moon Reef in Matagorda Bay, Texas.
