  • Army Black Hawk flights scheduled over Galveston/Houston area

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 31, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will coordinate four Army Black Hawk helicopters to fly over Galveston Island and the Houston area Sept. 7, 2016, as part of an annual hurricane exercise to track the 2008 Hurricane Ike path and view critical infrastructure and areas that could be affected if a hurricane hit the Galveston/Houston area.

  • District awards $7.6 million contract to dredge Freeport Harbor entrance and jetty channels

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 23, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $7,629,200 to Manson Construction Company for maintenance dredging of the Freeport Harbor Entrance and Jetty channels in Brazoria County, Texas.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $5.1 million contract to dredge Sabine Pass Outer Bar and Bank Channel

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 22, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract to Manson Construction Company in the amount of $5,189,300 for maintenance dredging within the Entrance Channel of the Sabine-Neches Waterway, Texas.

  • District awards $15.6 million dredging contract for Houston navigation channels

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 22, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract to Weeks Marine Inc., in the amount of $15,692,500 for the maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel, Redfish Reef to Morgan’s Point.

  • GIWW, Galveston Causeway underwater demolition and debris removal update

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 4, 2016) – Construction to remove underwater demolition and debris from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and Galveston Causeway that began earlier this week will cause a temporary closure of the waterway located at the intersection of the GIWW, the Galveston Causeway (Interstate 45) and the associated railroad trestle bridge.

  • Addicks and Barker Construction Project updates: Hike and bike trail closures

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 28, 2016) ¬– The Addicks and Barker Dam Safety Construction Project is scheduled to begin at the Barker Dam Aug. 1, 2016. Recreational features, including hike and bike trails will be impacted until 2019.

  • USACE Galveston District to host Stakeholder Partnering Forum

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 26, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will host a one-day Stakeholder Partnering Forum Aug. 4, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., to introduce the district’s new commanding officer, Col. Lars Zetterstrom, to participants; address Texas Ports Association priorities for working with USACE staff; review USACE business processes for non-federal use of federal placement areas and lands as well as non-federal modifications to USACE projects and discuss Southeast Texas Flood Risk Management partnering successes, challenges and opportunities during the 2015-2016 floods. State Rep. Wayne Faircloth, District 23, will provide the keynote address: Building coalitions across the public and private sectors to support coastal storm risk management in Texas for sustaining national security and economics.

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 8, 2016) – Col. Richard P. Pannell passed the command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District to Col. Lars N. Zetterstrom, 53rd district commander, during a change of command ceremony today at the USACE Galveston District’s Jadwin Building in Galveston, Texas.

She studied tirelessly after school every Monday through Friday before beginning her career as an administration support assistant.
