    HOUSTON (April 18, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, is closely monitoring the Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs in West Houston as part of stage one of an extended watch that calls for an increased surveillance of the flood risk management structures.

  • USACE Galveston District to host Industry Day for small business contractors

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 18, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, will host an Industry Day for small business government contractors May 4, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the district’s headquarters building located at 2000 Fort Point Road, Galveston, Texas 77550. This event will be held in conjunction with National Small Business Week, May 1-7, 2016.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $2.2 million for GIWW beneficial use

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 11, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a $2,268,400 contract to Midwest Construction Company for construction of a 3,000 feet extension of a rock breakwater at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Beneficial Use Site B near Austwell, Texas.

    GALVESTON, Texas (March 31, 2016) ¬– The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District issued a special public notice in response to severe flooding and other storm-related damages that occurred in communities along the Texas coast to provide guidance and a summary of exemptions and permits, which may be required for the protection and repair of existing flood damaged structures, damaged land areas and damaged fills.

  • Addicks and Barker Construction Project updates: Hike and bike trail closures

    GALVESTON, Texas (March 15, 2016) ¬– The first impacts to the hike and bike trail system associated with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Addicks and Barker Dam Safety Construction Project will begin April 1, 2016 with the temporary closure of the hike and bike trail located on the downstream side of the dam at the water control structure, until work is complete in the spring of 2019. The temporary closure will also include the gravel maintenance road atop of Addicks Dam.

    GALVESTON, Texas (March 1, 2016) ¬– Nelida Vazquez-Figueroa displayed a knack for numbers from an early age and after completing an introductory accounting course at the Advanced Computer & Electronic College, during her senior year in high school, she knew she would put her talent for numbers to work in the financial field. Now a program analyst for U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s Galveston District, she oversees various financial aspects of the Regulatory Division – a department best known for evaluating permit applications for construction activities that occur in America’s waters and wetlands.

  • President's FY17 Budget for USACE Civil Works released

    Galveston, Texas (Feb. 29, 2016) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will receive new feasibility funding for the Houston Ship Channel and Coastal Texas studies; continued funding for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Brazos River Flood Gates and Colorado River Locks as well as the Matagorda Ship Channel widening and deepening; construction funding for Addicks and Barker dams in Houston, and continued Operation and Maintenance funding for the Texas waterways in the president’s fiscal year 2017 budget for the Corps’ Civil Works program.
