    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 28, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District announced today, water from Addicks and Barker dams extends beyond government-owned reservoir land.

    Because of the extreme nature of the ongoing weather event in the Houston area, Army Corps of Engineers officials have determined that they will likely have to release intermittent amounts of water from both Addicks and Barker reservoirs to reduce the risk to the Houston metropolitan area.

  • USACE Galveston continues to monitor Addicks and Barker Dams

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 25, 2017) – The Addicks and Barker reservoirs are currently empty and are functioning under normal conditions where natural flows are being released through the system and into Buffalo Bayou. Construction continues on the two new outlet structures, which are protected by two coffer dams as part of the $75 million Addicks and Barker Dam Safety Construction Project, which began in 2016.

  • Drainage District No. 7 and the Corps work to repair damaged floodwall

    GALVESTON, Texas (August 4, 2017) – Jefferson County Drainage District No. 7 notified the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of a floodwall failure near Taylor Bayou Tuesday morning. The floodwall is part of the Port Arthur and Vicinity Hurricane Flood Protection system. As a result of the floodwall’s current condition, we do not have confidence that it will withstand a local tropical storm or hurricane.

  • Corps issues draft feasibility report for Resacas at Brownsville Ecosystem Restoration Study

    GALVESTON, Texas (June 13, 2017) – The Galveston District, US Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) informs the public of the release of the draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Resacas at Brownsville Ecosystem Restoration Study in Cameron County, Texas.
