USACE Galveston District earns Communitas Award

GALVESTON, Texas (March 12, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District earned a Communitas Award in the Making a Difference Category for its Corps in the Classroom: Building Tomorrow's Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Community Relations Program – an aggressive community outreach and social media campaign to spark students’ interest in STEM subjects, help counter stereotypes and increase participation of underrepresented groups in STEM careers.

USACE Galveston District summer water safety campaign in full swing

GALVESTON, Texas (May 1, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Water Safety Team is gearing up to “strike out drowning” this summer as part of an aggressive community outreach and public information campaign to educate those who use its recreational facilities, to enhance the commitment of community leaders and stakeholders in executing its mission of promoting public safety and to reduce water-related public fatalities along the Texas coast.

USACE Galveston District Public Affairs Office earns 2 Ware Awards

GALVESTON, Texas (March 19, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Public Affairs Office earned two Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Awards, placing first in the community relations individual achievement category and second in the community relations program category of the 2012 Army-wide journalism competition program.

USACE Galveston District hosts LSU students

GALVESTON, Texas (Feb. 22, 2013) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Regional Environmental Specialist Janelle Stokes couldn’t have been more pleased when she learned she would be presenting an overview of the district’s beneficial use program to a group of visiting Louisiana State University students who are just as interested in dirt as she is, and on their way to becoming the next leaders in the field of landscape architecture.

Corps Cares: Recycled computers enhance school technology, save money
