    USACE Galveston District to host a public meeting for Matagorda Ship Channel Feasibility Study

    GALVESTON, Texas (May 10, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District and the Calhoun Port Authority will host a meeting regarding the status of the Matagorda Ship Channel feasibility study on May 15, 2018, from 6–8 p.m. at the Bauer Exhibit Building, Henry Barber Way, County Road, Port Lavaca, TX 77979 to inform the public about the ongoing feasibility study activities for the Matagorda Ship Channel feasibility study and solicit public input regarding the study.

    USACE Galveston extends response date of Request for Information (RFI) for Excavation and Removal of Soil from Flood Pool

    GALVESTON, Texas (March 27, 2018)–The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District posted an extension on the response date for a special notice synopsis regarding a Request for Information (RFI) for Excavation and Removal of Soil from Flood Pool to May 4 2018. USACE Galveston District, is evaluating the level of interest from government, industry, and others parties for the excavation and removal of geologically deposited soils within the flood pool of Addicks and Barker reservoirs in Harris and Fort Bend counties, Texas. The concept of the potential project is to allow for the beneficial use of these materials by interested parties while increasing reservoir storage capacity of the Government project.

    “Spring Aboard” Boaters urged to get educated before boating season

    The temperature is starting to warm up outside, but it is a perfect time of year to start getting prepared for the boating season. Boating safety advocates are urging boaters to enroll in a boating education course prior to the main boating season. Spring Aboard – Take a Boating Education Course campaign is a nationally coordinated effort during the week of March 18-24, 2018 to increase the awareness of taking a boating education course.

    Rough Start to the School Year is Made Easier with Help of Federal Partnership

    Students of Mauriceville Elementary School and Mauriceville Middle School in Orange, Texas, once again have a classroom to call their own. After a topsy-turvy start to the 2017-2018 school year, the students moved into their new building on Feb. 20, thanks to a partnership among the State and local governments, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and FEMA.
