  • Listening sessions available for establishing a Federal Flood Risk Management Standard

    GALVESTON, Texas (Feb. 12, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District encourages agency partners, local non-federal sponsors and customers to participate in upcoming listening sessions regarding the 2015 Executive Order, Establishing of a Federal Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS) and a Process for Further Soliciting and Considering Stakeholder Input, as well as in the 60-day public comment period open through April 6.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $808,139 contract to dredge Port Mansfield

    GALVESTON, Texas (Feb. 6, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract modification in the amount of $808,139 to Orion Marine Inc., to conduct maintenance dredging at the channel to Port Mansfield between the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the entrance to the port, a distance of approximately one mile.

  • President's FY16 Budget for USACE Civil Works released

    Galveston, Texas (Feb. 5, 2015) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will receive new feasibility funding for the Houston Ship Channel and Coastal Texas studies; continued funding for the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay study; construction funding for Addicks and Barker Dams and Greens Bayou in Houston, as well as continued Operation and Maintenance funding for the Texas waterways in the president’s fiscal year 2016 budget for the Corps’ Civil Works program.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Feb. 4, 2015) – With six months on the job as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District supervisory civil engineer in the Engineering and Construction Division (Southern Area Office), Leslie Olson has her hands full, juggling the design of maintenance dredging projects in the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW), Corpus Christi Ship Channel, Brazos Island Harbor and the Matagorda ship channels.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 29, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will begin to remove woody vegetation from within 50 feet of the inside and outside toes of both of the Addicks and Barker dams, located near the intersection of I-10 and State Highway 6 in Houston.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Dec. 8, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District hosted more than 150 professionals during the Levee Safety Community of Practice Workshop Dec. 1-4 to discuss the program’s progress and how the risk framework has developed; review changes to policy and guidance documents; provide updates to partners and to facilitate an open forum to discuss program successes and challenges.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Dec. 1, 2014) – For the last five months, Diane Kovacevich has filled the role of a management analysis officer, processing personnel actions for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Resource Management Office, maintaining integrated manning documents and submitting reports – all new tasks that she readily accepted in her 40th year of service to help fill a gap in her office, proving that it’s never too late to learn something new regardless which stage people are at in their careers.
