  • USACE Galveston District awards small business contract for routine testing of dredged material

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 23, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, awarded a small business contract to Anamar Environmental Consulting Inc. in the amount of $258,987.54 for environmental services to include collection and analyses of water and sediment samples from the federally-maintained Corpus Christi Ship Channel and off-shore dredge material disposal site.

  • Deputy district engineer earns Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer certification; named diplomate of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 18, 2014) – Dr. Edmond J. Russo Jr., P.E., D.CE, D.NE, deputy district engineer for Programs and Project Management for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, was named a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE), a subsidiary of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) after earning the certification Tuesday.

  • District awards $8.2 million contract to dredge Houston Ship Channel

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 13, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $8,286,850 to RLB Contracting Inc., to perform maintenance dredging within the Houston Ship Channel, from Carpenters Bayou to Greens Bayou, as well as the deep-draft portion of Greens Bayou Channel.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $6.3 million contract to dredge GIWW

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 11, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $6,318,000 to Goodloe Marine Inc., a women-owned, HubZone Small Business, to perform maintenance dredging within the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, between Turnstake Island and Live Oak Point, in Calhoun, Aransas and San Patricio counties, Texas.

  • Students paint Colorado River Locks to send safety message

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 11, 2014) –Bay City High School art students and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District partnered to paint three-feet high murals at four locations along the Corps-operated Colorado River Locks, to combat water-related fatalities at Corps’ owned and operated facilities.

  • USACE to complete $1.3 million Half Moon Reef project

    MATAGORDA, Texas (April 7, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is scheduled to complete construction of the $1.3 million Half Moon Reef project April 11 to restore 12 acres of sub-tidal reef and habitat located within the northernmost extent of the Half Moon Reef in Matagorda Bay, Texas – one of the largest restoration projects around the country.

  • Corps awards $34 million contract to decommission, dismantle nuclear reactor; Galveston selected as decommissioning site

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 4, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Baltimore District awarded a $34,663,325 contract to CB&I Federal Services LLC (CB&I) for the decommissioning, dismantling and disposal of the MH-1A nuclear reactor, which is installed on the STURGIS barge. The STURGIS will be relocated in September 2014 to Galveston, Texas, for decommissioning.

  • $2.4 million dredging contract awarded for Brownsville Ship Channel

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 1, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District began a $2,455,000 maintenance dredging contract today to relieve channel draft restrictions in the Brazos Island Harbor (Brownsville Ship Channel) navigation project.

  • USACE Galveston District recognized with 6 Army communication awards

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 1, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Public Affairs Office was recognized with four awards from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Herbert A. Kassner Public Affairs Competition and two from the U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Competition.

  • USACE Galveston District Spotlight on Kristine Brown

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 1, 2014) – Kristine Brown, natural resources specialist and park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District began her federal career as a staff archaeologist in 1991. Today, she works at the Houston Project Office (Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs and Wallisville Lake Project) to serve the Greater Houston public, communicating federal laws regarding the preservation and protection of natural resources in the management, operations and maintenance of government water resource properties.
