GALVESTON, Texas (Jan. 19, 2012) – A dredge discharge pipeline will be placed inside the southeast end of placement area 58a on Jan. 22, 2012, as part of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Causeway to Bastrop dredging project. Mariners are asked to use extreme caution when operating a vessel in the area and be aware of pipelines and floating markers.
The pipeline will transverse the shoreline 1,800 feet along the north bank of the diversionary canal and will be placed 3,000 feet south connecting to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
The pipeline will have 1,500 pound anchors attached to cable every 800 feet and two 700 pound concrete weights attached to cable every 800 feet in between the existing 1,500 pound anchors. Every anchor and weight will be marked by a yellow steel buoy and an amber blinking light.
Additionally, the pipeline perimeter will be marked with danger signs every 400 feet and each sign will have an amber blinking light attached.
Mariners can contact the dredge contractor’s team using Channel 16 VHF.
