HOUSTON (June 29, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Public Affairs Office was recognized as the Government Communications Team of the Year at the Public Relations Society of America Houston Chapter’s 2012 Excalibur Awards, June 28.
Honored for its aggressive communications initiatives in 2011, the public affairs team worked diligently and proactively to increase understanding of the Corps’ mission of providing vital public engineering services in peace and war to strengthen the nation’s security, energize the economy and reduce risks from disasters and to effectively facilitate a two-way dialogue with a diverse group of residents and key constituencies along the Texas coast.
“The PRSA Excalibur Awards represent the best and the brightest in Houston communications,” said Ed Davis III, PRSA Houston Chapter’s president. “This is a fantastic achievement and the USACE Galveston District is to be congratulated for their excellent work.”
The award, open to any in-house communications department within local government, government agencies, health authorities, trade unions and trade bodies, recognizes the government team that is successful in executing public relations campaigns or programs during 2011 as part of an overall communications strategy. Additionally, the judges also looked for evidence of cost-effective use of both in-house and external resources.
“The USACE Galveston District is thankful to have its Public Affairs Office staff recognized among their peers with this tremendous accolade,” said Col. Christopher Sallese, commander of the USACE Galveston District. “Entrusted with managing the district’s reputation, the public affairs team implemented new communications initiatives to instill confidence in both internal and external audiences using a multimedia approach to exceed the USACE Southwestern Division’s goals and objectives.”
The winners were announced at the Excalibur Awards Gala in Houston June 28.
