GALVESTON, Texas (April 9, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, awarded a small business contract to First Liner Technologies Inc., in the amount of $79,554 for replacement of the existing security guard booth at the district’s headquarters building.

Work will include removal of the current guard booth, delivery and installation of a newly prefabricated booth and connection of existing utilities.

“The security of the Jadwin Building is essential in maintaining the daily operations of the USACE Galveston District to ensure our employees are able to execute the district’s mission along the Texas coast,” said Vern Schrank, USACE Galveston District civil engineer. “Work will be performed on a weekend this summer to ensure minimal interruption in the district’s operations.”

The USACE Galveston District supports the government’s policy of placing a fair proportion of district contracts with qualified small, small disadvantaged, women-owned, veteran-owned, service-disabled veteran owned and historically Black College and Universities/minority institutions.

“We view small business as the heart of the U.S. economy and a vital part of the Corps’ procurement process,” said Kenneth Adams, deputy for small business. "In these tough economic times, I’m glad to see small businesses expanding their customer base and considering the federal government as a source of business.”

Located on the east end of Galveston Island, Texas, the Jadwin Building serves as the headquarters for the USACE Galveston District. With its rich heritage in Texas history, the district plays a key role in America’s well-being by keeping waterways open for navigation and commerce and serves the nation as part of the world’s largest public engineering, design and construction management agency.
