    BAY CITY, Texas (Aug. 5, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, together with Bay City High School Art Teacher Sharon Landgrebe and her students, coordinated a project to create signs to alert the public about the need to wear life jackets when they are in, on or around water.

  • Students paint Colorado River Locks to send safety message

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 11, 2014) –Bay City High School art students and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District partnered to paint three-feet high murals at four locations along the Corps-operated Colorado River Locks, to combat water-related fatalities at Corps’ owned and operated facilities.

    MATAGORDA, Texas (April 7, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is scheduled to complete construction of the $1.3 million Half Moon Reef project April 11 to restore 12 acres of sub-tidal reef and habitat located within the northernmost extent of the Half Moon Reef in Matagorda Bay, Texas – one of the largest restoration projects around the country.
  • USACE Galveston District to begin maintenance work at Colorado River Locks; advises of temporary lock closures

    MATAGORDA, Texas (Feb. 14, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will begin maintenance repair work at the Colorado River Locks in Matagorda, Texas, to include installation of an impressed current cathodic protection system on the eight sector gates to extend the life of the navigation structures.
