USACE Galveston District to host GIWW, Brazos River Floodgates and Colorado River Locks Feasibility Study public scoping meeting

GALVESTON, Texas (June 29, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will host an initial public scoping meeting July 12, 2016, from 6–8 p.m. at the West Columbia Civic Center, 516 E. Brazos Avenue (State Highway 35), West Columbia, Texas 77486, to inform the public about the ongoing feasibility study activities for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) Brazos River Floodgates (BRFG) and Colorado River Locks (CRL) and solicit public input regarding the study.

USACE Galveston District to perform emergency dredging of GIWW at Caney Creek, Brazos River Floodgates

GALVESTON, Texas (July 17, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, will perform emergency maintenance dredging of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) at Caney Creek and the Brazos River Floodgates in Brazoria and Matagorda counties, Texas, beginning July 21, 2015.

District stresses water safety; flexes lock operations for recreational boaters

GALVESTON, Texas (May 18, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is gearing up for a busy Memorial Day holiday along the Texas coast by stressing water safety awareness to all those who will enjoy outdoor activities this extended weekend. The arrival of the Memorial Day holiday weekend will bring an increased level of outdoor activities throughout Texas, especially with outdoor recreation involving water activities at public beaches, in swimming pools, while boating and engaging in other aquatic-related activities.

USACE Galveston District awards $251,997 small business task order for buoy repairs

GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 25, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a task order in the amount $251,997 to J.M. Davidson Inc., (a small business contractor), for buoy repair, replacement and maintenance at the Brazos River Floodgates and the Colorado River Locks.

USACE Galveston District finishes maintenance on Brazos River Floodgates

GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 22, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District is scheduled to reinstall the East Brazos River Floodgates Aug. 28-29 following a yearlong refurbishing process in which each of the 80-ton sector gates along with an additional 40 tons of organic material were removed for repair and cleaning to restore and enhance their structural integrity and operation.

USACE Galveston District adjusts operations at Brazos River Floodgates, Colorado River Locks

GALVESTON, Texas (April 1, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will adjust operations at the Colorado River Locks and Brazos River Floodgates beginning today to limit gate swings from opening on demand to opening every hour on the hour for recreational vessels only. Commercial vessels, emergency access and law enforcement will not be affected by these operational changes.
