    GALVESTON, Texas (May 1, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Eduardo Irigoyen, construction manager in the USACE Galveston District, was recognized as the USACE Ronald J. Ruffennach Communicator of the Year. The award recognizes a member of the USACE outside of the public affairs career field for his/her outstanding contributions in communicating the USACE missions and programs.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $3.75 million small business contract for breakwater construction at Gulf Intracoastal Waterway

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 26, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a small business contract to Apollo Environmental Strategies Inc., in the amount of $3,750,050 to construct a rock containment perimeter at the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) adjacent to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Calhoun County, Texas.

  • USACE Galveston District completes maintenance dredging of Houston Ship Channel barge lanes

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 22, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District completed maintenance dredging of the Houston Ship Channel barge lanes between Bayport and Morgan’s Point to relieve a critical navigation hazard caused by shoaling in the busy waterway.

  • President's Fiscal 2014 Budget for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works released

    Washington (April 10, 2013) - The President’s Budget for fiscal 2014 (FY14) includes $4.826 billion in gross discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), which is offset in part by a proposal to cancel $100 million in unobligated carryover of funding appropriated prior to fiscal year 2013.

  • USACE Galveston District awards small business contract for security guard booth replacement

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 9, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, awarded a small business contract to First Liner Technologies Inc., in the amount of $79,554 for replacement of the existing security guard booth at the district’s headquarters building.

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 5, 2013) – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District’s Simon DeSoto, Colorado River lockmaster, earned second and third place awards for his radio water safety public service announcements during the 17th International Boating & Water Safety Summit in San Antonio, Texas.

  • USACE Galveston District adjusts operations at Brazos River Floodgates, Colorado River Locks

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 1, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will adjust operations at the Colorado River Locks and Brazos River Floodgates beginning today to limit gate swings from opening on demand to opening every hour on the hour for recreational vessels only. Commercial vessels, emergency access and law enforcement will not be affected by these operational changes.

    HOUSTON (April 1, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, together with Safe Kids Greater Houston, kicked off the summer 2013 water safety season and announced a newly-formed partnership with Spanish-language media outlet Telemundo at its 8th annual April Pools Day media event at the Houston Swim Club April 1.

  • USACE Galveston District Public Affairs Office earns 2 Ware Awards

    GALVESTON, Texas (March 19, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Public Affairs Office earned two Maj. Gen. Keith L. Ware Public Affairs Awards, placing first in the community relations individual achievement category and second in the community relations program category of the 2012 Army-wide journalism competition program.
